Does history follow art or does art follow history

In the six book series of J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings, several quotes I came across recently sure looked relevant for today. Check these out:
"They have no need to ride to war; war already marches on their own land."
"Faithful heart may have forward tongue."
– Theodon speaking of Eomer
…And she answered, " All your words are but to say : you are a woman and your part is in the house. But when the men have died in battle and honor, you have leave to be burned in the house, for the men will need it no more. But I am of the house of Eorl  and not a serving woman. I can ride and wield a blade, and I do not fear either pain or death."
"What do you fear lady?" he asked.
" A cage," she said, " To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire."
Eowyn to Aragorn
Here’s to great deeds….

Our dialogue were not only sexy or so tired that I have forgotten them. It\’s just that all we have said to each other, all the sentences, all the gestures like pass my hand on her hair, all the magic of the moment can\’t be written by simple words. If I was saying you something like : I told her "I will love you whatever the obstacles between us", it would be true ! But it\’s just a poor serie of poor word which are NOT enought powerful to describe the sincerity and the determination of the moment when I said this. To understand it ENTIRELY, you should have seen the light in my eyes and you should have heard my heart\’s beating. I can\’t "lay" all those magical sentences like that, boum, with simple words, it\’s useless.
    See you later lady
P.S : nice quotes. Can I take ones for my "proverbes du jour" ?

  2. Evelyn says:

Look how eloquently he wrote those words in English even though his first language is French and everyone in the English speaking world knows the magic French has to create romance. Goumy you are a wonder and a wunderkind and you don\’t even know it. Big kisses, you genius of romance!

  3. Evelyn says:

There is an old Scots saying " O Wad some power the giftie gie us. To see ourselves as ithers see us."  Literally, oh what great power that God could give us, to see ourselves as others see us. Obviously this can be negative or positive depending on the person\’s point of view. I think if we could be given this power mutually for a single day many wars would end, broken friendships would be mended and those who make a practice of deception would be thoroughly exposed.
